My Story

Hi everyone! Welcome to my fundraising page!

Lemurs, baobabs, chameleons, geologic features- it's like my dream come true! I have always wanted to go to Madagascar, and this summer, with your help and support, I will be able to realize my dream of visiting the world's fourth largest island. I am going to Madagascar to work with an organization called SEED Madagascar (and get some extra exploring in while there!). SEED Madagascar is community based. They work closely with communities helping them with income generating activities and helping them manage their resources in a sustainable manner. SEED Madagascar runs projects in four key areas: community health, education, sustainable livelihoods and the environment- so many things I care about!

Madagascar has suffered around 90% deforestation (estimated by Conservation International). As many as 83% of all plants and animals in Madagascar are unique to the island, forest dependent and therefore greatly affected by deforestation. SEED Madagascar works to conserve these endemic species and I can't wait to join in that work. I will be staying in a tent in the bush and working on whatever projects SEED needs assistance with. I cannot wait to explore the jungle looking for lemurs and listen to hundreds of different animals as I fall asleep.

Because SEED Madagascar is a relatively small organization, they need assistance in running the volunteer programs and funding the different programs they run. Presently, 100% of volunteers’ donations go straight out to Madagascar to run both the organization and the projects, some of which I will be a part (a small amount will be used to cover project costs such as food and transport). The donation I have agreed to raise does not cover my flight, insurance, vaccinations, visa, or any other personal expenses, so all of the money will be going directly to the organization.

Please consider making a donation to SEED so I can go on this adventure of a lifetime! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement- I can't wait to tell you all about my trip when I return! THANK YOU!!
